Klahhane Hike to Hurricane Hill
Sunset and Full Moon Rising
August 16, 2008
Forty people signed in for the Klahhane hike. A number of others joined the group at the top.
A grouse looks on (below). The weather was
unusually warm and hazy (right), although it had
cooled quite nicely for the hike..
Because of the construction on
the road to Hurricane Ridge, we
gave ourselves extra time to
arrive at the top. There the
group shared snacks, waited
for the sunset, and slapped
mosquitoes. Normally
mosquitoes are not much of an
issue. However, the heavy snow
this winter and the late snow
melt made mosquitoes a hazard
this year.
As the sun set, the full moon came up. With the haze, the sunset was more spectacular this year than in prior years and the
moon rise a little less spectacular. I noticed a ring of red around the moon in my dusk pictures. Pollution from Seattle as it rose
from the east?
Below us the lights of Port Angeles shimmered. At the
bottom left is an Exxon oil tanker in the harbor for
service. At the top of the picture, a cruise ship  on its
way from Seattle to Alaska.

Returning down the hill, the sky turned dark and the
full moon showed brightly.
The last bits of sun cast
their light on the
mountain tops.
