Sol Duc Falls and Deer Lake with the Klahhanes Aug 6, 2008
|
The hike began with a stop at Sol Duc Falls, approximately 8/10 of a mile up the trail to Deer Lake. This part of the hike is very
popular and easy so most visitors only make it to the falls, one of the most photographed places in the state of Washington
Below, a couple more pictures I took of Sol Duc Falls on the way back in the afternoon.
I was surprised how wet it was on the trail considering how there has been no real rain in seven weeks. The big snows of this
last winter were still creating run off. Below some creeks on the trail.
The next 3 miles were a challenge. That was because the trail was a 1600 foot elevation gain over a rock garden. But we were
rewarded with the always spectacular view of Deer Lake.
This is our friend and hike leader, Jim Kitrick. Jim has been on many a hike with us since we first began hiking with the
Klahhanes in January 2002. He is an awesome hiker and is a fountain of knowledge about Olympic National Park.
