SLAB CAMP to DUNCAN FLAT with Jim Kitrick Klahanne Club May 21, 2008
|
Spring is one of the prettiest times to hike on the Peninsula. The mosses have been fed by the winter rains and the plants are
very green. This has been an unusually wet year, so the Slab Camp to Duncan Flat hike was particularly spectacular.
The storms of a century which have hit the Peninsula the last two years are evident by all the downed trees.
This was one of the easier challenges of the day.
The Grey Wolf River was higher than anyone could
remember.
Lunch is usually the most
important part of the hike
with the Klahhanes.
This was the view of the river from the lunch spot. A big snow fall in the mountains and longer warmer days resulted in the
spectacular water levels on the creek.
The hike today was scheduled for high in the Olympics. But with record snow falls this year, the trail was inaccessible. Thank
you, Jim, for coming up with such a spectacular alternate hike.
