Klahhane Ridge Lake Angeles Overlook Klahhane Club June 10, 2009
|
It is only a mile and a half to Klahhane Ridge but with a 1500' elevation gain it is a tough mile and a half.
On our right, as we got to the top of the ridge, we were met by Mr. Olympic Marmot. He only lives in the Olympics.
And just a few feet further up
the trail we met Mr. Mountain
Goat.
There was little snow coming
up the trail, but on the other
side there was lots of snow.
Interestingly, the snow was
covered with red snow algae,
Jackie mumbled all the way up,
but you would never know it was
a challenge by her look at the
top.
The hike was supposed to go on to the Lake
Angeles overlook, but to do that part of the hike
one had to cross the snow. So, in short order
the wimp half of the group turned around and
went back to join the goat for lunch while the
hardy folks continued to the overlook.
Mr. Mountain Goat had
started lunch without us.
But he was delighted with
our comjpany.
Mr. Mountain Goat waited for
someone to share some food.
When that did not happen, he
rose in disappointment and went
down the trail to lick a spot where
a human had urinated to get his fill
of salt.
Left, Jackie barely makes it
past a falling tree on Lake
Angeles trail last week.
Switchbacks Revisited a Week Later
A week later, Jackie and I returned to hike the switchbacks as seen below.
And finally, a recent hike to Lake Angeles.
