Mount Hood Getaway Continued
On Wednesday, Larry led us on the Tom, Dick, and Harry hike.

In the picture below, you can see the road from which we hiked to Tom, Dick and Harry. Below us was Mirror Lake, and the big
mountain is Mount Hood. The view in this picture is of the south side of Mount Hood.

Jackie and I visited Mount Hood several years ago, but are not that familiar with the mountain. However, we heard numerous of
the hikers exclaim over how little snow there was on the mountain. It was the consensus that the glaciers have drastically
receded in recent years.
From Tom, Dick, and Harry, we looked north and saw
Mount Saint Helen (
above) and Mount Rainier (right)
some 100 plus miles away. The view of Mount Saint
Helen was somewhat obscured by smog floating over
from Portland.
Left, Larry, Dwight, Tracy, and Carol
and gaze at the view. Returning from
Tom, Dick and Harry, we did the loop
around Mirror Lake (
below).
That evening we ate dinner at the Timberline
Lodge. This lodge was built in the 1930's as
one of the make work projects of the New Deal.
This historic lodge was also used for the
exterior shots for the movie, The Shining, with
Jack Nicholson. After dinner we came out and
watched the sunset's reflections on Mount
Hood (
below). After sunset, we returned to the
Inn for a concert by Mark Pearson (
right) of
the Brother's Four. Mark is a member of the
Port Ludlow hiking group and this was his
second year putting on a performance for the
summer Getaway. Once again, it was a
spectacular performance with music we
remembered with nostalgia as well as new
numbers, some still works in progress.
Jackie and I wish to thank Dick and Heather Ullmann, Jack Reagan, Larry Scott, Michael and Hilda Cahn, Dan Darrow, Adele
Covert, and all the others for giving us such a marvelous time.
From Mount Hood,
we looked south
and saw the sunset
on Mount Jefferson.
The Three Sisters
are visible to the
