Rain Shadow Kayakers at Butt Beach
May 17, 2010
This was the most peculiar paddle to date for the Rain Shadow Kayakers--a paddle to Butt Beach.

Below, left to right, Jackie, Susan, Lydia, Doris, and Felix.
The poor woman in the middle of the next photo looks totally confused watching Jon, Lydia, Susan, Jackie, Doris, and Felix.
"What was Felix's group
smoking?" you must be
asking yourselves.
The trip today was to Glass Beach which
is about five miles west of Fort Worden
State Park.

There is lots of small glass on Glass Beach
which is what the group was picking up.

Five of the paddlers started from Fort
Warden. The other seven paddlers started
just beyond the lighthouse at North Beach.

The collection of glass today was
enhanced by a very low tide.
There were three exceptions to the butt up method of collecting glass. Below, Susan Toft with the drag the butt approach.
Rene and Cecil decided the best approach was just to watch the butt show.
Below,  Michael on the right, "My glass is prettier than your glass."
Glass Beach is on the northern tip of the east side of Discovery Bay offering a great view of Protection Island.
All good things must come to an end, so Jackie demonstrated the graceful approach to entering her kayak to go back to North
Beach.
Jon
Mallory paddles her Greenland paddle.
The paddle to Butt Beach was just one in a long series of great paddles by the Rain Shadow Kayakers.
