Paddling from Diamond Point to Port Townsend
with the Rain Shadow Kayakers
September 21, 2009
It was a spectacular paddle. About eleven miles one way from Diamond Point to Port Townsend. Very little wind, calm waters, and
sunshine the whole day.
Mount Baker was in full view most of the way.
Since it was a one way paddle, Felix arranged a support team in Port Townsend to shuttle kayaks back to Port Townsend. The
support group paddled from a launch point in Fort Warden to greet the paddlers at the half way point.
Much of the paddle took place along north faced cliffs exposed to the wind and waves which results in significant erosion and
landslides which eat away at the cliffs.
There was neat seaweed most of the way with an occasional gray heron.
Eventually we came to Fort Warden State park and the put in point for the support crew. We stopped there to have lunch.
At the lunch spot we left the support staff so they could drive in to Port Townsend to pick us up. On our way to Port Townsend we
passed the lighthouse at Fort Warden.
Our thanks to those who arranged the paddle and to the support group who brought us and our kayaks back to Diamond Point.

And a special thanks to Ellen and Oliver who had the group over to their place in Port Townsend for drinks and snacks before we
all went out for dinner.
When we woke up at 6:10 a.m., we knew it was going to be a great day.
