Broken islands 2006 - Part III
Nothing seemed to bring out the silliness in the group more than the bears. The mere mention of a bear would bring the
group running hysterically clutching their cameras. A bear fed frequently in the berries behind the lodge. (Note the
berries in front of his mouth.) We marveled at his ability to walk through the berry bushes unscathed.
At low tide, the bears would crawl among the rocks looking for sea life to eat.
The west side of Vancouver Island is
rain forest, so moss hangs from trees
everywhere.
The trip to the Broken Islands was
wonderful. We wish to thank the Port
Ludlow paddle group. In particular we
want to thank John and Sharon for
putting it together and our friend Doris
Monti for leading us on paddles three
different days to very diverse places.

Unlike two years ago, we had terrific
weather. Winds and waves were
moderate to easy. There was no rain.
The only challenge was the fog which
usually melted away at around 10:00
a.m. And as the fog melted away, we
got in our kayaks for the day's paddle
(see below).
