Barnes Creek Hike with the Klahhanes November 26, 2008, Thanksgiving Eve Hiking in Vampire Land
|
This last week, the number one
movie in the United States was
Twilight, a movie about Vampires
in the Rain Forest of the Olympic
Peninsula. So, it was appropriate
that our Klahhane Club chose to
hike in the Rain Forest today.
There was no rain today,
although everything was wet from
the rain of the last three weeks.
This last year we seem to have had
more rain and everything seems
greener than in any prior year.
The most interesting part of the day was our bridge crossings. The temperature was around 34 degrees when we
started the hike. The bridges were not only slippery from the rain, but there was also some frost or ice on the bridges..
There was nothing graceful about these hikers creeping sideways across this bridge with a single rail!
To hike the Barnes Creek trail, drive to the trail head for
Marymere Falls on Lake Crescent. Take the Marymere Falls
trail, but before you reach the Falls, you will see a well marked
sign on the left for Barnes Creek. Your hike can be as short or
long as you wish.
