Lake Angeles and above with the Klahhane Amazonians July 4, 2009
|
Today it was seven Amazonian Klahhanes and two tag along husbands trying to keep up.
As on the hike to Heather Park, it is a pretty dry hike through the forest.
Despite the dry forest
floor, there were
beautiful flowers the
whole way up if one
took a moment to look.
Left, pinesap.
Right, the forest floor
was covered with
Coral Root.
Rather than stop at Lake Angeles, the group hiked past the lake to a great view of Klahhane Ridge.
It is very dry at the edge of the tree line and the dead trees dry very hard.
It was a hot day (over 80), and even Amazonian hikers showed the effects of the heat.
I started early, fearful of my inability to keep up with the Amazonians. Soon after I arrived the Amazonians emerged above the
tree line.
One hiker rushed to the shade and
quickly pulled out a sandwich to revive
her energy.
As usual, the Amazonians were busy
identifying flowers.
The view of Lake Angeles was awesome.
After a brief lunch, there was the Amazonian Klahhane death march back to the club house for the Fourth of July potluck.
These women are something else.
