Even more Arctic Pictures
This trip was noteworthy for the paucity of animal life.  We never saw any caribou on this trip, but we did see several musk oxen at a distance. Our
luck finally changed towards the end of the trip. Alex spotted a muskoxen from a mile away and led us carefully as we snuck up to within 50 feet of
the guy. This is Jackie in the forefront.
We saw many unusual mushrooms.
This mushroom (below) was the size of a dinner plate.
Prior to the canoe trip, we drove south of Fort Smith to visit Wood Buffalo National Park, Canada's largest national park. In the middle of
summer we were almost the only visitors in this park where we encountered a number of wood buffalo.
This was a fantastic trip. Within weeks after this trip, we booked an Arctic trip for the following summer. There is nothing like the Northwest
Territories. It is the largest wilderness left in the world next to Antarctica. During the whole trip we never encountered any humans other
than the eight people on our trip.
